A tornado warning issued for the Pembroke area this afternoon has been lifted as a severe thunderstorm moved through the Ottawa Valley. Shortly after 3:45 p.m., the warning was issued as Environment Canada tracked a severe thunderstorm that was possibly producing a tornado. “This is a very dangerous and potentially life-threatening situation,” Environment Canada said in its alert. Locations in the alert included Pembroke, Beachburg, Cobden and Eganville. There were no immediate reports of damage. It’s unclear if a tornado touched down. Severe thunderstorm warning in effect A yellow warning - severe thunderstorm remains in effect for the Ottawa Valley as a storm moves east over Foresters Falls. “Local utility outages are likely. Damage to roofs, fences, soft shelters or trees is likely.Take immediate cover if a thunderstorm approaches. If outside, protect yourself from flying debris and hail,” Environment Canada says. Hazards include damaging winds between 90 to 110 km/h, loonie to ping pong ball size hail and between 15 to 50 mm of rain Severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes. A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect in Ottawa.
