A youth from Greater Sudbury faces a long recovery ahead following a serious assault at a skatepark in Hanmer late last month. The assault on the 14-year-old Kaleb took place just before 10 p.m. July 31 at the park on St. Joseph Street, police spokesperson Kaitlyn Dunn said in an email to CTV News on Aug. 10. “The youth sustained serious injuries,” Dunn said. “Based on the investigation thus far, officers have identified one of the individuals believed to be responsible and have applied for an arrest warrant. Officers continue to make attempts to locate and arrest the individual.” Online fundraiser Police are working to identify anyone else who was involved, police added. “Anyone with information is asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers. An online fundraiser set up to help the family with expenses said in an Aug. 7 update that the 14-year-old victim, in addition to a broken nose, also suffered a broken arm. He underwent surgery for the broken nose last week. “We remain deeply grateful for the love, prayers, and support shown by our family, friends and community during this incredibly difficult time,” the update said. “Your kindness, encouragement, and continued prayers have given us strength when we have needed it most.” His family said they are raising money to cover “medical costs, rehabilitation, transportation to appointments and other essential expenses as we support him through his recovery.” As of Monday afternoon, more than $8,800 had been raised.
