The Saskatoon Police Service (SPS) is investigating what it’s deemed a suspicious fire at a Saskatoon high school Friday evening. At around 10:30 p.m. Friday emergency crews received multiple calls about a fire at Bethlehem High School, located on the 100 block of Bowlt Crescent. Police and the Saskatoon Fire Department (SFD) arrived to find smoke and flames emanating from a construction area attached to the school. Fire crews worked to extinguish the blaze before calling for help in the form of more firefighters and trucks to the scene. Carson Hofer is a Bethlehem student set to return for his senior year this fall. He says finding out on social media about the damaged building and destroyed extensions was difficult to see. “It was devastating. It was shocking,” Hofer told CTV News Sunday. Local politicians, including NDP MLA Vicki Mowatt and Saskatoon West MP Brad Redekopp, took to social media to weigh in on the incident, and its impact on the community. The investigation into the blaze is ongoing, with SPS working with an arson investigator. Anyone with information is asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
