A Montreal man has been arrested for allegedly making death threats towards Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney. Marc Porlier, 51, appeared at the Montreal courthouse on Aug. 8. He was charged with uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm to a person under section 264.1 of the Criminal Code, according to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP). “He allegedly made the threatening remarks in an email sent to a senator, among other individuals,” police noted. The force explained that its investigation was launched on Aug. 5, leading to Porlier’s arrest. “The RCMP takes seriously any threats that can affect one’s sense of security,” it argued. “Violent statements will not be tolerated. Perpetrators may face criminal charges involving significant sentences.
