One person was sent to hospital after an early-morning high-rise fire on Sunday. Firefighters were called to an apartment building in the 500 block of Elgin Avenue just after 4:30 a.m. Sunday. The city said multiple units were called in due to the “high life safety risks” involved in a high-rise building. Smoke was found coming from inside the building and crews attacked the blaze, declaring it under control just before 5:20 a.m. Two people were assessed by paramedics on scene, with one eventually being taken to hospital in unstable condition. The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service is investigating the cause of the fire and there is no damage estimate available at this time.
