On Monday morning, Premier Christine Fréchette announced the Coalition Avenir Québec (CAQ) candidates running for election in the Mauricie region. The current MNA for Maskinongé, Simon Allaire, is expected to run again in his riding. Meanwhile, former president of the Quebec Microbrewery Association, Marie-Ève Myrand, is set to run in Champlain. Former journalist Guy Veillette is slated to run in Laviolette–Saint-Maurice. Last month, Fréchette announced that she would also run in the region, in the riding of Trois-Rivières. “With Simon, Guy and Marie-Ève, we are fielding a team that knows everything the Mauricie region has to offer,” she said. “I am proud to be able to count on these high-calibre candidates, who wish to put their experience in regional development to good use for their communities.” Allaire was first elected under the CAQ banner in Maskinongé in October 2018. He was re-elected by a comfortable margin in 2022. Myrand headed the Association des microbrasseries du Québec for 10 years before announcing her resignation in July. She previously led the Fédération des coopératives de développement régional du Québec. Veillette, for his part, worked as a journalist for daily newspaper Le Nouvelliste for 30 years.
