Regina asking for public feedback ahead of 2027-28 budget

The City of Regina is asking for public input ahead of next year’s budget cycle.

On Monday, the city issued a news release asking residents to outline their priorities in a pre-budget survey for 2027-28.

“The survey encourages residents to share their priorities and expectations, weigh in on the city’s financial direction and offer feedback on how potential investments align with the city’s strategic priorities,” said Jeff May, director of financial planning and analysis.

Residents can participate in the survey on the city’s website from April 1 until April 30 at 11:59 p.m.

In December, Regina city council approved a 10.9 per cent property tax increase for its 2026-27 municipal operating budget – a hike that cost taxpayers an extra $23 per month or $276 per year. That follows a 7.33 per cent mill rate increase in 2025.

City administration has stated that the high increases in recent years have come from a mixture of inflationary pressures and years of deferred maintenance to keep mill rates “artificially low.”

“The city budget allocates general operating funds, which support the more than 60 services the city provides to residents, as well as resources for capital investments and projects across Regina,” the announcement read.

A summary of the input gathered from the survey is expected to be provided to council prior to the start of the next round of budget deliberations.
