Police in Thunder Bay have charged six young people aged 14-17 with assault after bear spray attacks earlier this week sent one victim to hospital. Officers responded just before 9:30 p.m. on June 29 to the Victoria Avenue East area in response to reports of individuals using bear spray. “On scene, two victims were located and the individuals received treatment from emergency services,” police said in a news release. “One of the individuals was transported to a local hospital for further treatment. The involved suspects had left the scene prior to officers arriving.” A search of the area led to the arrests of the six teenage suspects, two aged 14, one 15, one 16 and two 17, all from Thunder Bay. Each was charged with two counts of assault with a weapon. One of the 17-year-olds was also charged with pointing a firearm and failing to comply with an undertaking. Suspects aged 14, 15 and 16 were also charged with failing to comply with a release order. The 17-year-old from Thunder Bay, who is facing two charges, was released from custody with a future court date. The remaining accused were remanded into custody following their first court appearances.
