Thousands of people filled Wascana Centre on Wednesday to show their Canadian pride. A variety of family activities, food trucks, music and entertainment took place all day to celebrate Canada Day. “This is my first Canada Day here. We just wanted to see what it’s all about,” said Joshua Victoria, who was at the event with his family. “To see everyone come out here to celebrate Canada Day, as well as all the great food that’s over here. It’s great.” The day began with a pancake breakfast at 8:30 a.m. followed by activities and different cultural food and dessert options for people to enjoy. Another resident said the Queen City festivities make her proud to be Canadian. “I think it’s very beautiful. I love all the markets to shop for souvenirs, food,” she said. “That’s what I love most. Canada is home for me.” Live entertainment for the event will begin at 5:15 p.m. with Rock Solid followed by Doctor Rocktopus and the main acts Doug and the Slugs at 8:30 p.m. The night will end off with fireworks, which will begin at 10:30 p.m. The event is sponsored by Brandt and organized by a board of volunteers.
