Dessert bar recalled due to Salmonella contamination

Shirreza brand Tahini Halva with Date Sap was recalled due to salmonella contamination in a recall notice issued May 15th.

A traditional Middle Eastern-style sweet has been recalled in Ontario and British Columbia due to Salmonella contamination.

In a recall notice, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) said a specific lot of Shirreza brand Tahini Halva with Date Sap is affected.

The recalled product has the lot number 6 261747 302923.

The CFIA said the recall was triggered by the company.

There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of the dessert.

According to the agency, food contaminated with Salmonella may not look or smell spoiled but can still cause illness.

“Young children, pregnant women, older adults and people with weakened immune systems may develop serious and sometimes fatal infections,” the CFIA said.

“Healthy people may experience short-term symptoms such as fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps and diarrhea. Long-term complications may include severe arthritis,” the agency added.
