Winnipeg school closed Thursday, Friday amid outage

A Winnipeg school will be closed for the rest of the week due to an electrical issue.

According to an announcement from the Louis Riel School Division (LRSD), Shamrock School will be closed on Thursday and Friday.

The division explained the school’s main power panel is badly damaged, adding that the transformer supplying power to the facility has also been affected. Due to these issues, the facility is without power.

Crews are working to repair the problem; however, the division does not expect electricity to be restored until Tuesday.

LRSD acknowledged the closure will be disappointing for many students, especially those taking part in musical performances scheduled for Thursday and Friday. The school division said it will work to reschedule these performances as soon as possible.

LRSD noted that daycares will also not be operating out of Shamrock School on Thursday and Friday. Daycare operators said they will be directly communicating with families about services for the next two days.
