Shots fired at Surrey home while people were inside, police say

A home in Surrey’s Bear Creek neighbourhood has been targeted by gunfire, in what police believe is another extortion-related shooting.

A home in Surrey’s Bear Creek neighbourhood was targeted with gunfire in the early hours of Saturday morning in yet another extortion-related shooting in the city, according to police.

The Surrey Police Service says residents of a house in the 8600 block of Galway Crescent called 911 to report shots fired around 2:20 a.m., and found the home had been damaged by bullets.

Luckily, no one inside was injured.

The department said major crime investigators may be in the neighbourhood Saturday to collect evidence.

Staff Sgt. Lindsey Hoguhton told CTV News the SPS has opened investigations into about 14 extortion-related incidents so far this year, as of Monday, Jan. 12. That’s on top of more than 130 extortion cases reported in 2025. Many victims are targeted more than once.

“These investigations can become very complicated in some cases, but I think the challenge is, is we certainly can’t become numb,” Houghton said in an interview Saturday. “Every case that comes in and every victim that gets identified and comes forward needs our full attention and 100 per cent of our energies in order to solve these cases and prevent more.”

As more and more extortion incidents happen in the Lower Mainland, he urged the public to stay engaged with the issue.

“We need people to continue to care about this. We need victims to continue to come forward, and perhaps just as importantly, we need people who are potential witnesses,” he said.

“We often say that even the smallest bit of information might be the biggest break in a case, and that’s true. You know, a licence plate or a photo from a dash-cam … that piece of evidence might be the case that we need to help not just solve these but hold people accountable.”
