Charges laid in connection to shooting near Swift Current

Two men are facing charges in connection to a shooting at a rural property northwest of Swift Current on Monday.

Officers with Swift Current Rural RCMP received a report of a firearm discharge around 5 a.m., according to Saskatchewan RCMP.

Through investigation, officers determined a fight took place between a group of people who knew each other. During the fight, guns were discharged, and one person was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

RCMP arrested three people in relation to the investigation. One person was released without charges.

A 49-year-old man and a 30-year-old man, both from Swift Current, are each facing one count of discharging a firearm with intent and one count of possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

The 49-year-old is also facing two counts of failure to comply with a probation order, while the 30-year-old is also facing one count of assault with a weapon and two counts of possessing a weapon contrary to an order.

Both men are being held in custody until their court appearance in Swift Current on April 22.
