Saskatoon police are warning residents about a text message scam that falsely claims recipients have received a traffic violation and need to pay a fine. In an advisory issued Saturday, police said they continue to receive a high volume of calls about the scam. Police say the messages claim to be from a police officer telling recipients they have a provincial court traffic violation and must appear in court. The texts then direct people to click a link to pay a fine. Police say the messages are fraudulent and should be ignored. Residents are advised to block the number, avoid clicking any links and not make any payments through the website linked in the text. Police say they will never send text messages requesting payment of any kind. If you have been a victim of any fraud or scam, police ask to report it to 306-975-8300. The fraudulent text messages can also be reported to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.
