Fire engulfs residence in Holtyre, east of Timmins

There was a large residential fire Thursday in Holtyre, a community east of Timmins. No word yet on the cause, but no injuries have been reported.

Witnesses say there was no one inside a residence that was destroyed by fire this week in the northern Ontario community of Holtyre, located near Matheson and east of Timmins.

CTV News received a video of thick black smoke and flames that could be seen pouring out of a pair of townhomes on Gleason Avenue on Thursday.

We also received photos from August Elysian, whose home is beside the residence. Elysian posted on social media that his home was damaged by the fire.

“Everyone is safe, thankfully,” he said in a message Friday.

Damage appears to have been extensive with flames breaking through the roof; another video shows nothing left of the property.
