On Saturday morning, the first annual Poker Run took place, starting just outside the Cosmopolitan Learning Centre. Dozens of motorcyclists headed off on the inaugural run, which kicked off around 10:30 a.m. It was organized in coordination with one of the parents whose son goes to the Centre. The Learning Centre told CTV News they use fundraising dollars for purchasing items such as vehicles, equipment and lifts. Executive Director Connie Lang said the centre has 230 participants who attend and that it is set up like a school. Lang also said the centre has different types of programs, such as employment programs and volunteerism, with the aim of helping individuals in any way they would like to and take part in any sort of activities they would enjoy. Members of the centre are happy with the amount of support the first iteration of the Poker Run has received. “We as a team had reached out quite a bit to sponsors and donators throughout the city. So, we had a lot of great cash and physical donations for our raffle baskets and to help this event come together,” said Angela Dobranski, public relations and career initiatives consultant. “Daryl, the parent to have reached out to us, he’s been really big on getting us all the other donations and bikers out and kind of help spread the word just because it is our first time.”
