Heat warnings have now ended for some communities in the Maritimes, though the hot weather is persisting elsewhere in the region. A heat warning remains in effect for southwestern areas of New Brunswick, except for the Fundy coast, as of Saturday morning. All of mainland Nova Scotia is also under a heat warning. The hot and humid weather has been blanketing much of the region for the past several days. The areas under heat warnings Saturday are expected to reach maximum temperatures between 29 and 31 C with the humidex making it feel near 35. “Conditions are expected to slowly ease through the day with the passage of a cold front,” said Environment Canada. With temperatures still high, the weather agency is warning people to take precautions to avoid heat stroke and heat exhaustion. “Plan and schedule outdoor activities during the coolest parts of the day. Limit direct exposure to the sun and heat. Wear lightweight, light-coloured, loose-fitting clothing and a wide-brimmed hat,” said Environment Canada. The temperatures are expected to return to more seasonal values by Sunday.
