Mounties say a mountain biker had died after a fatal crash in Fernie, B.C., on Wednesday. Police said BC Ambulance notified the Elk Valley RCMP about the man being in serious condition on a trail in Fernie’s Coal Creek area at around 12:30 p.m. “Life saving efforts were made but the man succumbed to his injuries,” police said, in a release. “The Elk Valley RCMP want to express our condolences to the family and friends of the cyclist.” Police said the man was an experienced mountain bike rider who was familiar with the trail and wore appropriate protective gear. Mounties said the rider’s death isn’t deemed suspicious and add that it “appears to have been a highly unfortunate accident.”
