One person killed in Hwy. 11 crash, roadway remains closed

One person is dead after a commercial and a passenger vehicle crashed west of Hearst. With a second hospitalized. The collision closed parts of Highway 11.

The James Bay Ontario Provincial Police is investigating a fatal involving a transport truck that occurred on Highway 11 in Clavet Township on Monday morning.

The road remains closed between Longlac and Hearst to large trucks.

Police responded at 6:45 a.m., along with Cochrane District emergency medical services and the Geraldton Fire Department.

The two-vehicle collision involved “a commercial motor vehicle and a passenger vehicle on Highway 11 just west of the Pagwa River Bridge in Clavet Township,” the OPP said in a news release.

Dead at the scene

“One person was pronounced deceased at the scene. A second person has been transported to a local hospital by ambulance.”

Highway 11 westbound in Hearst is closed for commercial motor vehicles, but traffic is open for passenger vehicles.

“Highway 11 is closed completely from Highway 631 to Longlac for all traffic,” police said.

Members of the Hearst OPP continue to investigate the incident with the assistance of the OPP traffic incident management and enforcement team.
