Police investigating Waterloo Region break-ins

Members of the Waterloo Regional Police Service’s Break Enter, Vehicle Theft, and Robbery (BEAR) Team are investigating two break-and-enters on April 16.

According to police, the first one happened at approximately 11:30 a.m. at a home near Highgrove Court and Dickie Settlement Road in Cambridge. The second instance happening less than an hour later near Robert Ferrie Drive and Thomas Slee Drive in Kitchener.

Police said during the second break-in, the homeowner returned home while the suspects were still inside the house.

Investigators are asking residents around the Robert Ferrie Drive, Thomas Slee Drive, Pieter Vos Drive and Blair Creek Drive area to review their home surveillance video between the 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. The suspects were last seen running away on foot and changing clothes.

Police are reminding residents to consider the following tips to help prevent break-ins:

• Keep doors and windows locked, even when home
• Keep valuables out of common areas and out of plain sight
• Install audible noise alarm systems
• Secure residences with home video surveillance cameras in the front and back of the residence
• Notify neighbours when away for an extended period and arrange to have someone check on your residence
• Report any suspicious persons or vehicles to police
