Brantford announces death of former city councillor Larry Kings

The City of Brantford says one of its former councillors has died.

Larry Kings represented Ward 1 from 2000 to 2006, and then again from 2010 to 2014.

The city said he brought a “thoughtful, principled voice to council and public discourse.”

“Fondly remembered as a councillor who ‘spoke only when he had something to say,’ Larry Kings leaves behind a legacy of quiet integrity, dedication, and meaningful impact on the City of Brantford,” they wrote in a social media tribute.

Kings served on a number of committees, task forces and boards throughout his tenure. They included the Brant County Board of Health, Shellard Lane Task Force, City/County Liaison Committee, Brantford Public Library Board, and the John Noble Home Committee of Management. He also supported the BSAR connection from Veterans Memorial Parkway to Wayne Gretzky Parkway, as well as the Blanche E. Williams Community Centre and Park.

Kings was added to the city’s “Wall of Recognition” in 2020 for his contributions to council and the community.

Brantford said all flags at city-run facilities will be flown at half-mast until May 4.
