‘Something for everybody’: Countdown on for KDays music, fair rides and food

Mother Mother and Down with Webster are just two of the acts performing at KDays this summer.

Edmontonians can expect artists and rising stars from genres of hip-hop and indie rock to alternative and punk to perform at the city’s biggest summer festival come July.

KDays organizers celebrated the finalization of Music Fest plans by offering the community a free coffee, a live DJ performance and giving away free prizes like tickets and swag on Tuesday.

“We’re really excited about how the lineup came together,” said Explore Edmonton’s Kalyn Van Horne on Tuesday.

“We’ve been working really hard, and we think there’s a little bit of something for everybody.”

Headliner Ty Dolla $ign will kick off the 10-day festival followed by Down with Webster, Mother Mother and Noah Cyrus, wrapping up strongly with Canadian rock band The Beaches.

Artists from Alberta can also be expected in this year’s lineup.

“We do have a really strong contingent of Alberta-based openers coming in to support the headliners,” Van Horne added. “We work closely with Alberta music to help have as many Alberta-based musicians play on our main stage as we can.”

KDays will feature special programs throughout the stay including a low-sensory morning for children every Monday, a feature day offering free tickets to Indigenous communities, a pride night offering free tickets to the LGBTQ2S+ community, and a first responders day with free tickets to different military and first responder groups.

“Of course, we’ll have the classics like the rides everybody likes, their favourite wacky food and there’s always a new food competition,” added Van Horne. “We’ll have Superdogs and lots of kids programming inside the Expo Centre.”

Edmontonians can expect a big marketplace inside the Expo as well, along with a new African circus show “Cirque Kalabanté” that will run three times a day.

The festival runs from July 17-26.
