NAIT and academic staff ratify new collective agreement

A new collective agreement between the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT) and the union representing its academic staff has been ratified.

In a statement, the NAIT Academic Staff Association (NASA), said that 92.5 per cent of its members voted in favour of the tentative deal proposed earlier this month.

NASA represents more than 1,000 academic staff at NAIT, including instructional specialists, librarians, counsellors and instructors.

Both parties have been in contract negotiations for a year and a half as they butt heads on pay increases, job security, workload, benefit protection and academic integrity, said a statement from NASA.

“The new tentative agreement provides a path forward grounded in stability and clarity for employees, students and the wider NAIT community,” said a statement from the polytechnic Thursday. “It introduces enhancements that recognize staff contributions while also supporting the institution’s long-term sustainability.”
