Innisfil to rename Hastings Park

Innisfil council has decided to change the name of Hastings Park, located at 757 Hastings Avenue in Alcona, voting to rename it Cedar Harbour Park.

In Oct. 2025, council passed a motion to inquire about the cost of changing the name of the park, following a request to rename Hastings Park to Cedar Harbour, the name of the neighbourhood the park is located in.

The request came from a longtime cottager in the Cedar Harbour area, according to the report. The park was created as part of the original plan of subdivision for Cedar Harbour in 1921.

According to the town’s website, the park area was in frequent use of the Cedar Harbour Cottage association in the mid 1900s.

In the historical considerations section of the town staff report, the report claims the name Hastings Park has been in use since at least 2004.

However, sales material for the Cedar Harbour subdivision dating back to 1972 refers to the area ‘field for sports’ and does not assign it a particular name. On the 1972 map, Hastings Avenue is also not yet named.

While the Hastings Park falls within Innisfil’s park naming policy (due to its frontage its namesake street), the policy allows council discretion to approve names of local or historical significance.

Council voted in favour of changing the name at the May 6 meeting.
