‘We gave her a good life’: Parents of Moncton murder victim return to court

The parents of a murdered woman in Moncton saw one of the accused in court.

Just as they promised, Pat and Peter Price were back in a New Brunswick court Thursday for an appearance of one of the two people accused of murdering their daughter.

Leandra Beaulieu made a brief appearance via telephone from the New Brunswick Women’s Correctional Centre in Miramichi.

“I was thinking when I heard her voice, I feel so sorry for her children.” said Pat.

Beaulieu, 36, is charged with first-degree murder in the death of Melissa Price.

Price was found dead in a garbage can at the bottom of High Street in Moncton on Feb. 15.

Devlin O’Blenis, 35, has also been charged with first-degree murder in the death of the 39-year-old woman.

“I didn’t raise my daughter out of a garbage bin,” said Pat. “We gave her a good life. Unfortunately, there are some poor souls in our young generation that get addicted to this shit out there. Yes, my daughter had a bad addiction. She still didn’t deserve to die no matter what she did.”

Beaulieu had her matter adjourned until May 7 for a preliminary inquiry because her defence lawyer is seeking disclosure on the case.

“I would like to request my disclosure as well,” Beaulieu also told Judge Brigitte Volpé.

O’Blenis made a brief court appearance via telephone from the Southeast Regional Correctional Centre in Shediac last Thursday.

Pat and Peter were present for that appearance as well.

Pat said her and her husband are new to the court system, but realize the process is going to take time.

“I’ve never been in a courthouse for a murder before,” said Pat.

Peter Price spoke briefly about the legal system and acknowledged his daughter struggled with addiction.

“But she still didn’t deserve to die,” said Peter.

Joshua Martin, 36, has been charged with being an accessory after the fact of murder and indignity to a human body.

Martin returns to court April 13, while O’Blenis is due back on April 16.

The Prices say they’ll be back for those appearances.

“Every one,” said Pat as her and Peter walked down the steps of the Moncton Law Courts.
