Spring antique sale returns to Winnipeg

An array of treasures was up for grabs at the Manitoba Antique Association’s spring sale on Sunday.

A hotel filled with treasures from other eras was up for grabs on Sunday.

The Manitoba Antique Association held its spring sale at the Viscount Gort Hotel, hosting more than 500 visitors by late morning.

Vice president of the association Gary Nerman said visitors look for a wide range of items, such as vintage toys, china, collectibles and more.

“The biggest thing that probably increased the most is advertising things, like old Coca-Cola signs and then mid-century modern furniture items – anything that came from mid-century, 50s and 60s are very hot,” Nerman said on Sunday.

The association is made up of members who have a common interest in antique collections, with a monthly meeting and two antique shows annually.

One attendee acquired a vintage art deco bar set, a modern-era ice bucket with red flannel design and a Hy’s Steakhouse back patch.

“Antique shops are closing down. Not many are opening up, so you have to have places like this,” he said.

Nerman said the show isn’t just about members selling their collections.

“It gives them a chance to interact, see each other and buy more antiques.”
