The rain did not stop people from flooding downtown Regina to attend this year’s YQR Food Truck Wars. The two-day event featured food trucks by local restaurants, live music, Disney trivia and other activities for people and families to enjoy. About 12,000 people were in attendance at Victoria Park over the course of two days, according to Regina Downtown Business Improvement District (RDBID). “The goal is to have a vibrant downtown that we can be proud of and enjoy. Just seeing all these businesses, not just the food trucks, but also the business having foot traffic,” said Rimo Creer, manager of marketing and communications of RDBID. “People always complain about downtown, [how] they don’t go downtown anymore, but here’s a good reason for you to go downtown,” Creer added smiling. Although the event has been happening in Regina’s Warehouse District for years, this is the second year it has taken place in the city’s core downtown area. “We love seeing people gathering around downtown, especially in Victoria Park. Even though we don’t have the best weather right now, we still have a good turnout,” said Creer. “Food trucks are always happy that there’s so much people trying out their food.” Over 20 food trucks participated this year. The event ran on Friday 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday from noon until 9 p.m.
