A severe thunderstorm and tornado watch is in place for parts of southern Saskatchewan on Saturday. According to Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC), around 12:30 p.m. conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms with strong wind gusts, large hail, and heavy rain. Areas under the severe thunderstorm watch include Regina, Moose Jaw, Gravelbourg, Montmarte, and surrounding areas. ECCC says some travel delays and outages are possible. Further south, a tornado watch is in place for several communities as of 12:30 p.m. Weyburn, Estevan, and surrounding communities may see strong winds, large hail and heavy rain with a possibility of tornadoes. Damage or destruction to infrastructure and homes is possible in the event of a tornado. The potential for tornadoes will diminish Saturday night, the weather agency said.
