Support continues for the Canadian soccer player who broke his leg during a FIFA World Cup match in Vancouver. Ismaël Koné’s tibia and fibula in his left leg were broken during a group-stage matchup against Qatar on June 18. Support for Koné has been immense in Vancouver, with fans buying and wearing his jerseys, putting up signs on their balconies, and chanting his name in the eighth minute of Canada’s next match at BC Place. A Nike store on Robson Street joined in on the support as well, changing its sign from “NIKE” to “KONE.” The 24-year-old is expected to make a full recovery after undergoing surgery, but he will not be available for the rest of the tournament. He met with the team post-surgery in Vancouver, and even watched their match against Switzerland from a wheelchair near the pitch. Canada returns to action on Sunday at 12 p.m. against South Africa, this time playing a knockout match in Inglewood, California. With files from The Canadian Press
