Teen charged with killing cat: Winnipeg police

Winnipeg police have arrested a 16-year-old who is accused of killing a cat with a knife.

On Monday, around 9:20 p.m., police were called to the Centennial neighbourhood after reports that a youth was injuring a cat.

When officers arrived at the 600 block of Main Street, police said a youth was found holding a knife and there was a dead cat nearby.

Police learned the teen brought the cat to the area in a plastic bag – it is believed the cat was still alive at that point – then took it out of the bag and “assaulted it with a knife, resulting in its death.”

The teen has been charged with killing or injuring animals, causing unnecessary suffering to an animal, possession of a weapon, four counts of failing to comply with conditions of a release order, and failing to comply with a sentence.

The youth remains in custody. None of the charges have been tested in court.
