A 40-year-old man from Calgary has been charged with several offences following a scary incident last weekend in Sault Ste. Marie. Police say he attacked a group of people he didn’t know with his vehicle and then lit one of the victim’s belongings on fire. A 911 call came in around 3 p.m. July 19 about an erratic driver in a parking lot on Pim Street. Didn’t know the victims “An investigation revealed the accused attempted to strike two pedestrians with a vehicle in the parking lot,” police said in a news release. “The accused then got out of the vehicle, pushed one of the victims, set fire to one of the victim’s belongings, and verbally threatened to damage property belonging to a third victim. The accused was not known to the victims.” He has since been charged with numerous offences including assault with a weapon, breach of recognizance, dangerous driving, disobeying a court order, mischief, uttering threats and starting a fire in a restricted zone. The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
