Warning: Graphic content The Ottawa Police Service has outlined a timeline of events leading up to the deaths of two young boys and their father last month as they conclude their investigation into the suspected double murder-suicide. The two boys, aged 7 and 12, were found deceased at a home on Mandevilla Crescent on June 29. The children’s father, who police identified as 40-year-old Dr. Mohammad Al-Lami, was found dead inside a burning vehicle at a carpool lot along Highway 416 near Kemptville. Police say investigators have concluded that the boys were killed by their father during the late evening of June 28 or the early morning hours of June 29. “Al-Lami subsequently intentionally set fire to his dental practice in Iroquois before dying by suicide in a vehicle near Kemptville,” police said. “Investigators examined the three scenes, completed interviews, reviewed financial and digital records, and considered forensic and post-mortem findings. The evidence established that Al-Lami acted alone. No other person is believed to have been involved, and there is no ongoing risk to public safety.” Police say investigators established a timeline of events: At the request of the mother, the names of the boys will not be released publicly by police. Police say no criminal charges can be laid because the person responsible is deceased. “The investigation also identified a history of intimate partner violence and continuing conflict involving parenting arrangements and financial support,” police said. “While no single circumstance can fully explain this violence, the evidence indicates that these issues likely formed part of the context leading to the deaths.” Court documents show Al-Lami was on probation after being found guilty of threatening his ex-wife. According to court documents, in January 2024, he was charged with threatening to cause bodily harm to his ex-wife in an email. Court documents show Al-Lami was found guilty in April of this year and received a conditional discharge with 12 months of probation, meaning if he abided by his probation terms, he would not have a criminal record. His conditions included not communicating with his ex-wife except with prior written consent or through a third party or court order to arrange contact with his children. According to court records from September 2024, Al-Lami had custody of at least one of his sons every other weekend, per a family court agreement. Al-Lami was also charged with threatening to cause bodily harm to a man in an email in January 2024. That charge was withdrawn in April 2026.
