Three people are dead after an SUV collided with a parked semi on Highway 1 in southwest Saskatchewan. On Monday, July 20, at around 3:20 p.m., Maple Creek RCMP learned of a two-vehicle collision on the eastbound lanes of Highway 1 near the hamlet of Piapot. An investigation by police determined an SUV collided with a semi that was parked on the side of the highway. Three people inside the SUV were declared dead at the scene of the crash. They were identified as a 49-year-old woman, a 72-year-old woman, and a 75-year-old man – all from Estevan. A fourth person inside the SUV was taken to hospital with injuries described as serious. The driver and passenger of the semi did not report any injuries to police. A portion of Highway 1 was closed for a period of time after the crash, but has since been reopened. The investigation into the crash continues with the help of a collision reconstructionist.
