Arrest made after shots fired toward group in Nanaimo park, Mounties say

Nanaimo RCMP say a suspect has been arrested in connection with a shooting near Knowles Park earlier this month.

Police say the arrest was made Tuesday. Investigators also found a white Audi they had been looking for as part of the investigation.

Officers were called to the area of Old Victoria Road and Ranier Street at about 8:40 p.m. on June 3 after reports of gunfire.

According to police, shots were fired from a vehicle toward people in the park before it left the area. No injuries were reported.

RCMP have previously said they believe the shooting was targeted and that there is no ongoing risk to the public.

“At this time, no charges have been laid in relation to the June 3 shooting. The individual remains in police custody on unrelated matters as the investigation continues,” the Nanaimo RCMP wrote in a statement Wednesday.
