Despite a disappointing result for Canada soccer fans, Jacob Shaffelburg’s hometown of Port Williams, N.S., came together to support him and the team as they took on Morocco in the FIFA World Cup on Saturday. A free watch party took place at the parking lot beside Brig and Barq with a large screen to allow fans to see the game. “We are all here for Jacob. He is such a humble and genuine person,” said Troy Lenihan, president of the Valley United Soccer Club. “When he comes home, he supports Valley United and interacts with the players, signs autographs and gives back to the community. He never forgets where he came from.” Lenihan says Shaffelburg has become an inspiration for youth in the club. “He is an inspiration for all the players here and the youth growing up. Everyone here is so proud.
