Private plane crash near Whistler, B.C., leaves occupants seriously injured: RCMP

Occupants of a private plane that was reported overdue near Whistler, B.C., Monday were found seriously injured, according to authorities.

Mounties said the plane failed to return to the Squamish Airport, prompting a call for assistance around 10 p.m.

“The Sea to Sky RCMP took initial steps to locate the plane and were assisted by Whistler and Squamish Search and Rescue teams and CFB Comox 442 Squadron,” a statement from the detachment said.

“The missing plane was subsequently located in the Brandywine Valley. The occupants of the plane were located and transported to hospital with serious injuries.”

No additional information was provided about the plane, the number of occupants, or the nature and extent of any injuries.

The Sea to Sky RCMP said the Transportation Safety Board of Canada will be notified, and deferred all inquiries to the federal agency.

In a brief statement of its own, the TSB said it has no plans to deploy investigators to the scene because “the aircraft is reported to be submerged.”
