Regina Pat Canadians win back-to-back U18 AAA provincial titles

The Regina Pat Canadians are league champions for a second year in a row and now they turn their attention to Western Regionals which begin this week.

The Regina Pat Canadians took the first step in defending their 2025 Male U18 AAA national championship, defeating the Moose Jaw Winmar Warriors in the Saskatchewan Male U18 AAA Hockey League (SMAAAHL) final.

In a rematch of last year’s provincial championship, the Pat Cs needed five games and a 5-2 series-clinching win on home ice to win back-to-back league titles.

It marks their 12th SMAAAHL title in franchise history for Regina, while for Moose Jaw, it’s the second-straight frustrating trip to the league finals against their Trans Canada rival.

After playing with the lead for less than 11 minutes in the first four games – combined – of the series, the Pat Cs started the game like they were shot out of a cannon. Maddox Schultz scored just 26 seconds into the first period.

With Regina up 3-1 in the third, Malaki Martin increased the lead four minutes in with his league-leading 10th goal of the postseason. Mahlon Wiley added an empty-netter with 2:31 remaining to seal the win.

Despite the series’ result, both teams have qualified for the Telus Cup Western Regional in Regina, with the winner advancing to the national tournament.

The Pat Cs and Warriors will be joined by the Winnipeg Bruins and Thunder Bay Kings.

That tournament runs April 2-5 at the Co-Operators Centre.

Moose Jaw opens the Telus Cup Western Regional on Thursday afternoon against Winnipeg.

Regina will play the nightcap against Thunder Bay.
