Suspected propane leak closes Highway 64 in French River

A suspected propane leak has closed part of Highway 64 in French River on Tuesday, with OPP telling residents and motorists to avoid the area.

Ontario Provincial Police have closed a section of Highway 64 in the French River area while crews investigate a suspected propane leak.

OPP announced the road closure in a social media post shortly before 5 p.m. on Tuesday.

The highway is shut down in both directions between Douglas Road and Dokis Reserve Road – a largely rural and wooded region.

“The closure is for an investigation into a suspected propane leak,” the OPP said.

Motorists told to avoid area

Police have asked residents and motorists to avoid the area.

OPP Const. Martin Thibault, in a brief call with CTV News, said a technician has been dispatched to the area and the situation is expected to be resolved later this evening.

Thibault added that the closure is a precautionary measure for what he described as a “minor” incident.
