London nurse died from 13 gunshot wounds; new info revealed from 2021 homicide

Two unidentified gunmen shot London nurse Lynda Marques 13 times to the head, neck, and chest.

That information was uncovered in an agreed statement of facts obtained by CTV London during the sentencing of Ammar Patel, the driver who brought the two gunmen to Wateroak Drive in September of 2021 with the apparent intention of killing Marques’ fiancé Ali Bhatti.

Marques returned home in a white Dodge Charger, typically driven by Bhatti, just before 8 p.m. on Sept. 10, 2021.

Before she could exit the vehicle, Patel pulled up to the driveway in a stolen black Volkswagen Jetta, and two masked men jumped out of the vehicle.

In a surveillance video shown in court, the men ran quickly to the driver’s side of the Charger and fired multiple shots into the car.

A forensic examination of the scene and Marques’ body revealed 19 cartridge casings and 17 recovered bullets. There were nine from the car, seven from Marques’ autopsy, one from a laptop inside the car and three bullet fragments.

All of the casings were from 9 mm Luger ammunition.

Bhatti was inside the home at 2229 Wateroak Dr. with their young son when he heard several loud bangs. He went out to investigate and found the Charger in the driveway with multiple bullet holes to the driver’s side window and door.

He saw Marques motionless and there was a large amount of blood. He called 911 and when first responders arrived, she was without vital signs. She was pronounced dead in hospital.

Patel was sentenced to life in prison for manslaughter by Superior Court Justice Alissa Mitchell in a London courtroom on Monday, June 9, 2025, for his role in the homicide.

The statement of facts reveals that Patel was under investigation by Toronto police in the fall of 2021, and was arrested in November of that year.

His iPhone 7 was seized and using the WAZE app, police tracked his GPS to London two months earlier.

The navigations showed him travelling to Wateroak Drive, as well as Meadowlilly Drive, the place where the Jetta was abandoned and discovered five days after Marques’ murder.

Inside the abandoned vehicle was a Lysol wipe in the passenger door handled and in between the seat and console. A container of wipes was also in the car.

Surveillance video from the home showed the Jetta first arrived at Marques’ home at 10:55 a.m. on the day of the murder, about 9 hours before the shooting. The video also shows the car came and went throughout the day finally setting up outside the home at 5:57 p.m. and waiting there until the 7:52 when Marques arrived home.

The two gunmen remain at large.
