Arrest made after bank fraud scheme cost Calgarian $12,500: police

After reaching out to Calgarians for help, police have made an arrest in connection with a bank fraud scheme.

Police put out the call for tips on May 22, two days after the incident allegedly occurred.

On May 20, police say the victim received a phone call from someone who appeared on caller ID and verbally identified themselves as being from BMO’s fraud investigations department.

According to police, the caller told the victim her debit and credit cards were compromised.

The caller also had key personal information about the victim, police say.

Police say the caller convinced the victim to provide her PIN numbers, cut up her cards and hand over the pieces to someone who arrived at her door.

A couple of hours later, the victim was informed—by an actual BMO communication—of a $12,500 transaction at a local casino.

Police now say they’ve made an arrest in connection with the incident, thanks to several tips from the public.

The suspect has not yet been identified, as charges are pending.

It’s anticipated police will release additional information once charges are laid.

Meanwhile, investigation into the incident is ongoing.
