Three years since Autumn Shaganash vanished, a mystery unsolved

It has been three years since Barrie, Ont., woman Autumn Shaganash went missing.

It has been three years since Barrie, Ont., woman Autumn Shaganash vanished without a trace, and the mystery surrounding her disappearance remains unsolved.

Shaganash, who was 26 at the time, was last seen on the morning of June 10, 2023, near Sunnidale Park. It was believed she was heading to the Barrie Waterfront to watch the air show.

Surveillance video obtained by investigators shows Shaganash with a friend on the same day she disappeared, while an ALS Walk attended by dozens was taking place nearby.

Her friend told investigators he had briefly walked ahead of her and became distracted. When he turned back around, Shaganash was gone.

Her sister, Lili Moore, said she received a text message from Shaganash that very morning, but within minutes of responding her phone went straight to voicemail.

Investigators said there was no sound or cry for help and that it appeared as though she had vanished without warning.

Shaganash’s family taped posters of her picture on street poles throughout the city’s downtown, hoping someone with information would come forward.

Barrie police say a family member contacted them on June 12 to report the Indigenous woman missing. Investigators said they cannot determine whether a vehicle was involved and have not ruled out the possibility of human trafficking.

Since her disappearance, the Barrie Police Service has launched multiple ground searches, K9 and drone deployments, electronic billboards, a city bus awareness campaign and a $50,000 reward for information that could help find her.

As another year without answers approaches, police say there are no updates in the case but will continue to mark the day and encourage anyone with information to come forward.
