Spring snowstorm heading to Manitoba

Though the calendar may say it’s springtime, Mother Nature has other plans for Manitoba.

According to a snowfall warning issued by Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC), a late-season Alberta clipper is expected to bring heavy snow to western and central Manitoba beginning on Tuesday afternoon.

The weather agency notes that several communities, including Roblin, McCreary and Dauphin, are expected to get between 15 and 30 centimetres of snow.

The heavy snow is forecasted to taper off overnight Wednesday and into Thursday morning.

ECCC warns that travel will likely be challenging with the risk of outages and road closures.

Special weather statement in southern Manitoba

Along with the snowfall warning, ECCC has also issued a special weather statement in southern Manitoba communities, including Winnipeg and Brandon.

It notes the Alberta clipper is poised to impact these communities; however, warmer temperatures will limit snowfall accumulations.

ECCC expects areas along the Trans-Canada Highway to receive between two to 10 centimetres of snow by Wednesday morning. It adds that much of this snow will likely melt on contact with the ground.
