Mounties in Chilliwack say a man has been arrested in connection with a riverside fire near Peach Park. Police say they were called to the park last Tuesday at 5:42 p.m. for reports of a “fire involving river debris” along the Rotary Trail and Vedder River. The Chilliwack Fire Department arrived and managed to contain the fire, according to police. Mounties say they found evidence that the fire was set intentionally. A release from the Upper Fraser Valley RCMP explains that police found and arrested a man nearby in connection with the fire. Mounties have asked anyone who was in the area and may have photos or video of the fire to call the Chilliwack RCMP at 604-792-4611 and quote file number 2026-26369. Police have specifically asked for a witness who provided the name “Roger” to come forward. “Investigators are seeking to identify and speak with a male witness who was in the area at the time of the fire and is believed to have captured video footage of the incident. Police believe this individual may have valuable information to assist with the investigation,” reads a release from police. Police say no one was injured by the fire or during its suppression.
