Drugs and air pistol seized, two arrested: police

Police have arrested two people for drugs and weapons-related charges on Saturday.

Shortly before midnight, officers approached a man and a woman standing next to a vehicle in a commercial parking lot in the 200 block of McGregor Street, while patrolling.

In a media release, police said businesses were closed due to the time of day in an area “known for higher rates of both property and violent crime.”

When the officers approached the two people, they saw a firearm inside the vehicle, exposed in plain view. Both were arrested and officers conducted a search of the vehicle.

Officers seized a Beretta-styled air pistol, 20 grams of cocaine with estimated street value of $2,000, 22 grams of methamphetamine with estimated street value of $1,100, 73 prescription pills of Gabapentin with estimated street value of $220, a cell phone, a scale, and $625 in Canadian currency.

A 66-year-old man is now facing multiple charges, such as trafficking and weapons-related charges, and proceeds of crime. He was released on undertakings.

A 44-year-old woman is facing similar charges. In addition, she is also facing charges of failing to comply with release order, and mischief to property after allegedly damaging a door during the intake process at the police station.
