Parts of Manitoba are under an overland flood watch due to significant precipitation expected over the next several days. The province’s Hydrologic Forecast Centre said parts of western and northwestern Manitoba, including the Parkland region, are under the flood watch from June 27 to 30. The province said parts of the impacted areas could receive more than 60 mm of precipitation starting Saturday and running to Tuesday, though the intensity, timing and total amounts remain uncertain. “Some weather forecast models indicate the potential for thunderstorms to develop which could result in localized rainfall amounts in excess of 80 mm,” a news release from the province reads. Other areas of southern and central Manitoba, including the Interlake, could receive between 40 and 60 mm. The province said localized overland flooding could happen in low-lying areas, areas with poor drainage, and areas that have already received significant rainfall earlier this month. River runoff can also increase.
