Police say impaired e-biker collided with horse and buggy near North Bay

A 61-year-old man has been charged with impaired driving and other offences following a collision near North Bay, Ont., involving an e-bike and a horse and buggy.

The collision took place in Chisholm Township on June 19 around 8 p.m., Ontario Provincial Police said in a news release June 26.

“The operator of the e-bike was transported to hospital by ambulance with injuries,” police said.

Signs of impairment

“During the investigation, officers observed signs consistent with alcohol impairment and made a demand for a breath sample, which the e-bike driver refused to provide.”

There was only minor damage to the buggy, police said, and no other injuries were reported.

The e-bike driver from Essa Township has been charged with impaired driving, refusing to comply with a demand and three counts of driving while prohibited.

He was released and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in North Bay on July 21.
