Charges upgraded to murder in Vancouver vehicle-ramming incident, police say

The man accused in a terrifying vehicle-ramming incident in Vancouver’s West End neighbourhood last month has been charged with murder.

Police announced Friday that Tadd Myron Bali, 34, is now facing one count of second-degree murder one count of attempted murder, and two counts of dangerous driving causing bodily harm.

The upgraded charges come weeks after one of the victims—a senior who was struck while in a wheelchair—died in hospital.

Bali was initially charged with four counts of dangerous driving causing bodily harm.

The Vancouver Police Department previously alleged Bali intentionally drove a Jeep onto the sidewalk near Broughton and Comox streets in the early morning hours of May 15, then crashed into several trees and vehicles.

“The Jeep he was driving struck the senior in the wheelchair and later hit a police car responding to the incident,” the department said in a news release Friday.

“Two police officers were injured but were released from hospital the same day.”

One of the officers was a recruit who was on his second day on the job, authorities said.

Bali was arrested at the scene and has remained in custody since.
