Hydro Ottawa says a downed power line caused more than 30,000 customers to lose power Monday morning. The outages began just after 7:30 a.m. and encompassed an area from the Ottawa River south to Manotick, and includes Nepean, Bells Corners, Stittsville, Dunrobin, Carp, and parts of Kanata and Barrhaven, affecting more than 30,000 customers. The cause of the outage was a loss of supply from the provincial grid because of a downed line. “Earlier this morning, several customers experienced a momentary outage in our service area. This outage was triggered by a downed transmission line, which resulted in a temporary loss of supply from the provincial grid,” Hydro Ottawa said on social media. “Our crews worked quickly alongside provincial partners to isolate the issue and safely route power back to your homes and businesses. Thank you for your patience and understanding while we got the lights back on.” The map provided by Hydro Ottawa looked similar to one last Monday, which was blamed on a loss of supply from the provincial grid. Power was largely restored before 9 a.m., according to the outage map. Hydro Ottawa said on Saturday that it was conducting safety patrols over the weekend following the record-breaking rainfall and flooding on Canada Day. “As crews continue safety patrols this weekend, they may identify storm-related damage to customer-owned electrical equipment. In some cases, power may need to be disconnected, even at properties that currently have power, so a certified electrician can complete repairs before we reconnect service,” Hydro Ottawa said on social media. “We understand this may be frustrating and disruptive, especially for customers who currently have power. These steps are only taken when needed and are required to help keep customers, crews and properties safe.”
