Second suspect arrested in $30,000 exotic birds’ theft

A second suspect has been arrested in a $30,000 exotic birds’ theft in the city.

On June 30, police said they found and arrested 19-year-old Mahmoud Moe Khalaf in the 3100 block of Howard Avenue.

He is now facing charges of:

• Break-and-enter and commit theft over $5,000 in a place other than a dwelling
• Willfully causing unnecessary pain, suffering, or injury to an animal or bird
• Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000
• Wearing a disguise with intent to commit an offence

A third suspect has been identified and is still at large. They cannot be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
