1 arrested after ‘family disturbance’ that caused Surrey road closure Friday night: SPS

Surrey police and members of the heavily armed Lower Mainland Emergency Response Team shut down Highway 10 between 152 and 168 streets Friday night as they investigated what they called a “family disturbance.”

Police vehicles could be seen congregating outside a home near the intersection of 160 Street and the highway, which is also known as 56 Avenue, around 9 p.m.

In an email to CTV News Saturday, Surrey Police Service spokesperson Sgt. Ali Gailus said “an individual from the residence was eventually taken into custody and arrested without incident.”

“This was an isolated situation with no immediate risk to the public,” Gailus said. “There were no injuries to the individual taken into custody or the officers.”

The road remained closed for several hours, eventually reopening by 2:30 a.m. Saturday.
